Summary Chapter
Applicability: Cranium, Synapse (core versions 0315+)

The first chapter of every Cranium and Synapse document is the Summary chapter. The chapter contains only a single page on which information is presented describing the document and its contents.

Because the Summary Chapter contains only one page, it does not have and does not need an identifier pane. The data pane contains several sections presenting titles, information, library links, notes and associated documents.

Typical Usage
  • Used to record information describing the document. You should always enter values for the document's titles and description. The Document Information Section is often used to summarize the document's contents.
  • Used to record information that will be used throughout the document, e.g., library locations and internet search queries.
  • Used to record external document's associated with the current Cranium or Synapse document, e.g., project reports, exported files, spreadsheets, etc.
Chapter Sections

The chapter's datapane is divided into six main sections:

Section Description
Document Titles Section contains fields managing the document's title, subtitle and version. These fields can contain any text value.
Document Information Section contains a single large field managing general information about the document. Generally this field is used to summarize the document's contents.
Libraries Locations Section contains a single field listing Library Names and Library Locations. These entries enable you to flexibly store pathnames of references and associated documents
Search Terms Section contains internet queries that can be executed from many property fields within Cranium and Synapse
General Notes Section used to store any general notes about the current document
Associated Documents Section used to store links to any documents associated with the current document.
Chapter Commands

The Summary chapter has commands for reporting properties. These commands are available from the chapter's Commands menu.
