Triangular Graphs Chapter
Applicability: Cranium, Synapse (core version 0317+)
(Click here for documentation on previous versions)

The Triangular Graphs chapter is found in Graph Documents. The chapter enables you to view, create, and edit triangular graphs.

Typical Usage
  • Phase equilibrium diagrams containing three components are easily visualized on triangular graphs. Liquid-liquid equilibrium diagrams are one such phase diagram.
  • Triangular diagrams are very good for displaying properties dependent upon the composition of ternary mixtures. For example, the colors of ternary mixtures of gold, silver and copper can be displayed well on a triangular diagram.
Chapter Sections

The chapter's datapane is divided into six sections:

Section Description
Descriptive Information Section contains fields for describing the graph's variables, keywords, units and a general reference for the source of the graph's data values.
Triangular Data Values Section contains one large field for viewing and editing the triangular data values that are displayed on triangular graphs.
Triangular Segments Section contains two fields for specifying the curve segments and region segments that appear in the current graph.
Triangular Graph Section contains one large field for viewing and editing the axes, segments, and notes that comprise the current triangular graph.
General Notes Section used to store any general notes about the current graph. This field often contains a brief overview of the current graph's contents.
Associated Documents Section used to store links to any documents associated with the current graph.
Chapter Commands

The Triangular Graphs chapter's commands are available from the chapter's Commands menu.

  • Report Graph Properties: activates the Report Properties Dialog that enables you to select graph attributes to add to an open Report Document.
  • Extract Image Points: activates the Extract Triangular Graph Dialog that enables you to extract numerical points from images of triangular graphs.
  • Compile Keywords: compiles the keywords from each triangular graph into the Compiled Entities Dialog which enables you to review, select, and bookmark triangular graphs having the same keywords.
  • Go To Reference: changes to the page in the current document's Reference Chapter showing information about this graphs's reference. A graph's reference is entered into the Descriptive Information Section's Reference field.
  • Show Reference: retrieves the reference stored in the current graph's Reference Field and opens the reference's associated document.
  • Switch Axes: activates the Switch Values dialog that enables you to change the data values and attributes shown on each triangular graph axis. See the dialog's documentation for details.
Common Commands

The menubar provides numerous other commands for navigation, bookmarking, file operations, units conversion, etc. See the documentation on Common Commands for details.
