The Text-Reference Dialog is used by many fields to display and edit text values, references and comments. For example, the six field's contained in the Chemical Descriptive Information Section use the dialog for editing their data values.
1
|
The dialog is activated by clicking the left mouse button on a field's datum control. |
2
|
The dialog can also be activated by clicking the right mouse button on a field's datum control and selecting the Edit Data command from the commands menu. |
The dialog enables you to view and edit the datum's value, reference, and comments. The dialog also provides functionality for changing the case of text values, finding references, and viewing a reference's document.
1
|
Datum Control: displays and enables editing of the physical property's value. Typically, because the physical property value is a string, very little if any verification is done of the entered value. |
2
|
Reference Edit Control: enables you to enter the identifier of the reference from which you obtained the property's datum value. You can type in a value or use the dropdown list to select a recently entered value. Entering a reference is optional but highly recommended. |
3
|
List References Button: activates the Choose
Reference dialog.
When you select one of the listed references, the reference's identifier is copied into the Reference Edit Control. (See here for additional documentation.) |
4
|
Comments Edit Control: displays and enables editing of the comments associated with this value. |
5
|
Date Button: inserts the current date and time into the Comments Control. These values are inserted at the cursor's current position. |
6
|
Phrase Button: inserts the current user's 'Personal Phrase' into the Comments Control. The phrase is inserted at the cursor's current position. |
7
|
Set Phrase Button: activates the 'Set Comment Phrase' dialog. This phrase is stored within the Windows system and is accessible throughout all application documents. |
8
|
Show Ref Button: displays the document assoicated with the cited reference. The cited document must be the identifier of a Reference contained within the current document's Reference Chapter. The document's location is retrieved from the entry in the Document Location Section. |
9
|
Save Button: stores the entered values into the current document. |
Clicking on many text-based physical property values will activate the Text-Reference dialog.
You would then enter a value for the Datum and optionally, but highly recommended, values for the reference and comments. The List button and the reference control's dropdown menu is typically used to select reference identifiers. The Date and Phrase buttons are typically used to add details to the Comments.
Once all values have been entered, you would press the dialog's Save button to store the values into the current document.
The commands menus for text entry controls, e.g., the value control, the reference control and the comments control, have commands for copying, pasting, inserting symbols, and changing case. The commands menu is displayed by clicking the right mouse button on a text entry control.
Documentation on each of the menu commands can be found here. See also documentation for the Symbol Dialog and Changing Case.
