Solubility Solvent Series Dialog
Applicability: Cranium, Synapse (core versions 0315+)

The Solvent Series Dialog is used by the Solubility Estimates Dialog to generate a series of state variables consisting of a fixed temperature, a fixed pressure, and a solvent selected from a specified list of solvents.

Dialog Controls

The Solvent Series dialog provides controls for specifying a fixed temperature, a fixed pressure, and a list of solvents.

1
Fixed Temperature Control: enables you to enter the fixed temperature that will assigned to each state variable set.
2
Fixed Pressure Control: enables you to enter the fixed pressure that will assigned to each state variable set.
3
Solvents Table Control: enables you to select those solvents used to generate state variable sets. Clicking the left mouse button on a solvent deselects all selected solvents and selects that solvent. Holding down the ctrl-key and clicking the left mouse button on a solvent selects, or deselects if already selected, that solvent without changing the selection of other solvents. Holding down the shift-key and clicking the left mouse button on a solvent selects all solvents in the list between that solvent and the previously selected solvent.
4
Bkmrk Button: enables you to select a list of solvents from a bookmark set. See below for details.
5
Find Button: enables you to select a solvent by entering part of its name or other descriptive identifier. See below for details.
6
Detail Button: activates the Chemical Detail Dialog which enables you to view each selected solvent's molecular structure and basic chemical properties. See below for details.
Using bookmarks to select solvents

Bookmarks are a very useful method for storing lists of chemicals, mixtures, references, documents, etc. The MKS Example Bookmarks document, provided with all versions of Cranium and Synapse, contains several bookmarks listing commonly used solvents. (See the Bookmark Chapter and the Using Bookmarks documentation for additional details on how to create and use bookmarks.)

Entering a fixed temperature, a fixed pressure, and then selecting a chemical solvents bookmark would generate state variable sets such as those shown below.

Finding a specific solvent

Pressing the dialog's Find button activates the Entities Dialog containing those solvents listed in the dialog. The dialog enables you to select a solvent using its name, synonym, or several other descriptors.

Showing details about selected solvents

It is often useful to examine the properties of selected solvents. For example, you might want to check that the selected solvents have melting points and boiling points that ensure they will be in the liquid phase at the application's temperature.

Pressing the dialog's Detail button activates the Chemical Detail Dialog that enables you to view each selected solvent's molecular structure and basic chemical properties.
