Number Format Dialog
Applicability: Cranium, Synapse (core versions 0315+)

Cranium and Synapse use one format for displaying all numbers in documents, reports and dialogs. This format is specified using the Number Format Dialog which is activated by running the Options menu's Format Number command.

Tip: Very big and very small numbers are automatically formatted

Numbers that are larger than 1E+10 or smaller than 1E-10 are automatically formatted in scientific notation.

Example: Change the application's number formatting
  1. Select the Format Number command from the Options menu. The application activates the Number Format Dialog.

    The Decimal Place controls specifies the number of digits shown to the right of the decimal point.

    The Exponent Digits control specifies the number of digits shown in the number's exponent. If a value of 0 is selected, then no exponent is displayed.

    The Sample control displays an example number formatted as specified by the Options controls.
  2. Open a knowledge base and navigate to the Chemicals Chapter. (See the Navigation Overview documentation for details on navigating chapters and pages.)
  3. Scroll through the current page's sections, observing how the displayed numbers are formatted in accordance with the options specified in the Number Format Dialog.

    Numbers are displayed with five decimal places and no exponent, as specified in the Number Format Dialog.
  4. Now select the Format Number command from the Options menu. Change the options shown in the activated Number Format Dialog and then press the dialog's OK button.
  5. The application will redisplay all numbers in all documents in the new format.
