The Elements Chapter is found in knowledge base documents. The chapter manages element properties and attributes used in molecular structures and estimation techniques.
In addition to all the standard elements, Cranium and Synapse use several special elements.
Element | Symbol | Description |
---|---|---|
Free | * | Wildcard, used to represent "any atom" in structures |
Not Hydrogen | !H | Wildcard, used to represent any atom except hydrogen |
Polymer end 1 | p1 | Used to represent an end of a polymer repeat unit |
Polymer end 2 | p2 | Used to represent an end of a polymer repeat unit |
Unpaired electron | e | Used to represent the unpaired electron in free radicals |
The chapter's datapane is divided into five sections:
Section | Description |
---|---|
Descriptive Properties Section | contains fields for managing the element's basic identification and bonding information. |
Constant Properties Section | contains fields for basic, constant properties such as melting point and boiling point. |
Standard Entropy Section | contains fields for specifying the element's entropy at a standard condition of 298.15 K and 101.325 kPa and in a specified, standard form. |
General Notes Section | used to store any general notes about the current element. |
Associated Documents Section | used to store links to any documents associated with the current group. |
The Elements chapter's commands are available from the chapter's Commands menu.
The menubar provides numerous other commands for navigation, bookmarking, file operations, units conversion, etc. See the documentation on Common Commands for details.
